Community Award Winners 2008

On the 27 August we held our first GGH Celebration Day at Bewsey Community Park Centre.  Along with lots of other events we distributed the 2008 Community & Junior Community Awards.


The awards were sponsored by Jewson and were presented by Peter Mercer (GGH, Chief Executive) and Royston Willard (GGH, Chairperson of the Board).

 

2008 Community Award Winners...
Derek Broderick

Derek Broderick

Derek was nominated for being a wonderful neighbour and showing how kind some people can be.  He has particularly helped a very vulnerable elderly neighbour with cooking, cleaning, shopping, administering his medication and driving him to appointments.  Derek did all of this simply out of compassion for his neighbour and GGH are very proud to have tenants such as these.

Norma & Brian

Brian Evans & Norma Melville

Brian & Norma have been nominated for making a brave stance against an intimidating neighbour and anti-social behaviour.  They went the whole way with providing evidence and working with the police.

Elizabeth Leigh

Elizabeth Leigh

Elizabeth who is known as Betty was nominated for being a helpful and caring neighbour, happy to help out others in her community by helping with shopping and other favours.

OORA

Old Orford Residents Association volunteers

Old Orford Residents Association has recently been taken over by a young enthusiastic committee.  This group of volunteers have been nominated for the numerous achievements they have made in this short time.  These include a breakfast club, mums & tots groups, sports events, after school clubs, social evenings, kids clubs, and many trips.   All these events and activities take lots of hard work, organisation, skill and dedication.

Carole Clark & Brian Thompson

Carole & Brian have been nominated for being good neighbours and for their hard work and dedication to St Peters Area Tenants and Residents Association. 

Pat Whittle

Patricia Whittle

Patricia was nominated again for all her hard work she gives to Victoria Park Residents Association.  Patricia runs armchair exercise classes, a book club, craft group and works on the community newsletter and for the credit union.

2008 Junior Community Award Winners...

Kayleigh

Kayleigh Williams (age 13)

Kayleigh was nominated by Old Orford Residents Association for all her hard work in helping support and run the craft classes, sports events and activities – she always ensures the younger children are happy.

Emily

Emily Birkinshaw (12)

Emily has been nominated by her very proud grandma for being a fantastic granddaughter. She helps her around the house and waters her plants every week and when she is away. 

Rhys

Rhys Jones (12)

Rhys was nominated by Old Orford Residents Association on Alder Lane as he helps out the group as an enthusiastic youth volunteer – helping out with events and activities.  In addition to this Rhys helps the younger children in the area by fixing bikes and helping his neighbours.

Leah

Leah Hillman (13)

Leah is the new and very enthusiastic Junior Reporter for the Golden Gates Housing News & Views magazine.  Since starting earlier this year she has shown true dedication and commitment to her new role and is always keen to get involved to promote local issues and activities.

David

David Parker (17)

David has been nominated by his mum to show him how proud she is of his achievements – such as overcoming shyness & ill health to help young people who are being bullied, winning a photography award and taking photos for the Wolves home games.
